In My Cart: Zara

If you've read my About Me page, you'll already know that I'm a self-proclaimed serial clicker. Translation: I do a great deal of online shopping. Truth be told I hardly ever step foot in brick & mortar stores anymore. What with most e-boutiques offering free shipping, easy returns, and the hassle-free experience of not having to squeeze myself and my two (understandably) unenthusiastic daughters into a dressing room, it's kind of a no-brainer. The tricky thing with online shopping, of course, is you never really know what you're going to get until it shows up on your doorstep. The item you hotly anticipated could turn out to be a completely different color in person, the fabric could be scratchy, the fit all wrong, etc. So it's always a gamble, but one I'm willing to take because the risks are minimal.

The real problem for me is self-control. It's too easy to amass a stockpile of pieces in your shopping cart knowing that there's no lasting commitment. Whatever doesn't work out gets replaced in the box and put back out on my doorstep, usually with a pre-paid return label provided by the boutique. The cunning e-commerce overlords have designed it this way intentionally for people like me (i.e. willpower-deficient) to take copious advantage. And it's not just fashion that seduces me with its ease of clickery...don't even get me started on Amazon Prime. I will admit to the world at large right now that I am Amazon Prime's bitch and I feel zero shame about it. The fact that I can get a single light bulb delivered to me ON THE SAME DAY I ORDER IT without having to change out of my pajamas has revolutionized my life. If Amazon folded tomorrow I'm pretty sure you'd find me roaming the streets, wearing two different shoes and talking to buildings.

But back to fashion. Because of my love of browsing I tend to have full carts on multiple sites at any given time. Most never reach fruition, and the ones that do are edited down greatly before I'm comfortable taking the plunge, but more than once Mike has walked by me as I'm engaged in this tomfoolery and rebuked me with a subtle, "Babe what the HELL." I reassure him that the items in my cart are not necessarily for purchase, but merely a wishlist of sorts, at which point he gives me dagger eyes because he knows full well there's probably a delivery in our future.

That being said, I thought it might be fun to start a series here on the blog to share what's currently in my cart on a particular site. The series will be called...wait for it...In My Cart. I considered a plethora of catchier monikers (Cart-Time Lover, Cart of Darkness, Queen of Carts, Untamed Cart, Oops I Carted Again, Cart & Soul, Shot Through the Cart & You're to Blame, My Cart Will Go On and On) but I figured, best keep it simple.

So here is the first of the series, and the cart contents I will be sharing today are from a perennial favorite: Zara. I am a frequent repeat-offender on this site and I can confidently say it's the brand that is most heavily represented in my wardrobe. The clothing there is on-trend and decently-made without breaking the bank, and sometimes you can find pieces that look like they just came off a runway (probably because Zara straight-up hits copy/paste from high-end designers all the time but I'm telling you right now, I don't care). So let’s get right to it, shall we? Here’s what I’m currently coveting; don’t be surprised if you see some of these appear in my Wardrobe in the near future.
